Improvements in Clinical Standards
Over the past four years standards in clinical care have risen considerably. More children, elderly and chronically ill patients are being protected against disease than ever before, and more women are being screened to detect cancer. We have improved standards in the management of long term conditions including asthma, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cancer, and many others. We are very pleased to be able to help an increasing number of patients to quit smoking.
Melbourne Grove Medical Practice is measured on the clinical management of 19 different long term conditions and on the overall managerial performance of the practice. We have made great improvements over recent years, some of which are highlighted below.
Protecting you against flu
Seasonal flu can be very dangerous if elderly (over 65 years old) patients or patients with long term conditions are not vaccinated. We encourage all such vulnerable patients to receive a flu jab, here at the surgery, each winter. Over the last 4 years we have increased the percentage of over 65’s receiving the flu jab from under 50% to over 70% of registered patients, and we aim to increase this again this winter.
More of you are helping us to detect cancer early
The NHS screens all women between 25 and 64 years old to detect signs of cervical cancer and – if any signs are apparent - to intervene at the earliest possible stage. We have made every effort to ensure all women of these ages are aware of this essential service and have increased screening rates from 66% to almost 90% this year.
Keeping your children healthy
It is vital that children complete their immunisation programme to protect against serious illnesses during their formative years. Working closely with our patients we have increased children immunisation for both 'under 2' and 'under 5' from a low of 63% to now over 94%.
